The amount of Personally Identifiable Information that you choose to disclose to Vidya Council is completely up to you. The only way we know something about you is if you provide it to us.

"Personal information" is defined under the (Indian) Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Information) Rules, 2011 (hereinafter "SPDI Rules") to mean any information that relates to a natural person, which, either directly or indirectly, in combination with other information available or likely to be available with a body corporate, is capable of identifying such person. The SPDI Rules further define "sensitive personal data or information" of a person to mean personal information about that person relating to: passwords financial information such as bank accounts, credit and debit card details or other payment instrument details received by body corporate under lawful contract or otherwise visitor details as provided at the time of registration or thereafter and call data records. Information that is freely available in the public domain or accessible under the Right to Information Act, 2005 or any other law will not be regarded as sensitive personal data or information.

What information do we collect, what is the purpose for such collection and how do we use this information?

Vidya Council collects information about our users in two ways: by your voluntary submissions (for instance if the school you associated with sign up for the usage of Vidya Council through website and mobile application/s to become a registered user) and through cookie technology. In addition to this, Vidya Council may also collect your location information using cell-tower technology for some specific users. The information Vidya Council collects is used in a variety of ways: for internal review to improve the content of the site, thus making your user experience more valuable to notify you of updates, to provide you information you have requested and to let you know about any related products and services. Vidya Council may use this information for contacting the user from time to time.

Vidya Council may automatically collect non-Personally Identifiable Information and data through the use of "cookies". Cookies are small text files a website/mobile application uses to recognize repeat users, facilitate the user's ongoing access to the website/mobile application and facilitate the use of the website/mobile application. Cookies also allow a site to track usage behaviour and compile usage information that will allow for the improvement of content.

Vidya Council may automatically collect device and log information. When you use our services or view content provided by us, we may automatically collect and store certain information in server logs. This may include details of how you used our service, such as your internet protocol information, device id, device event information such as crashes, system activity, hardware settings, browser type, browser language, the date and time of your request, location information, etc.

Who is the intended recipient of the information collected and who retains the information? The information is collected for Vidya Council, and shall be retained by Vidya Council. Such information shall only be disclosed by Vidya Council under certain conditions mentioned later in this section. User can access, modify, correct and eliminate the data about him/her/it which has been collected pursuant to his/her/its decision to become a User. If User updates any of his/her/its information, Vidya Council may keep a copy of the information which User originally provided to Vidya Council in its archives for uses documented herein. Vidya Council takes user's rights seriously and encourages User to use them if User deems this to be appropriate. This information is used to analyze overall trends to help Vidya Council improve its Service.
